Embodied Therapy

We know based on research that our bodies can store our emotions and trauma.  When we use embodied interventions, we are able to bring the brain (emotional) and the body (physiological) together.  During this session, we will work to create meaningful interactions using our body including breathwork to release emotions or trauma that may be stuck.  Yoga, combined with breathwork, are a great place to start experiencing and exploring embodiment. During this session a gentle yoga practice will assist in bringing about awareness of physical sensations and how our body might respond to different situations. Embodied therapy is an integrative practice that creates a sacred space where time expands and slows down, allowing you to find your deepest sense of self.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an 8-phase structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation. Bilateral stimulation can be achieved with any or a combination of eye movements, sound, or tapping.

EMDR therapy is extensively researched and proven to be an effective psychotherapy method.  EMDR is an accepted evidence-based therapy helping people recover from trauma, PTSD, and any distressing emotions or experiences. Ongoing research supports positive clinical outcomes showing EMDR therapy as a helpful treatment for disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addictions, and other distressing life experiences (Maxfield, 2019). EMDR therapy has even been superior to Prozac in trauma treatment (Van der Kolk et al., 2007).

While there is no set number of sessions for EMDR as each person and each target memory is different, EMDR has been shown to take fewer sessions than talk therapy alone.

Reiki

Reiki means life-force energy.  Everything in this world gives energy.  There can be times in our life that our vibrational energy is low, restricted, or blocking our Chakras.  There are seven main chakras, which align the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head.   When your Chakras are blocked so is your flow of energy.  This can lead to experiences of feeling stuck in life, feeling not good enough, feeling sluggish or lethargic, being inflexible, decrease in stress tolerance, experiencing pain and stiffness in your body, and feeling ungrounded and unsettled.   Reiki helps facilitate the flow of energy in your body and creates well-being.

Yoga

Yoga is a natural and readily available approach to maintaining wellness and treating mental health issues.  It targets unmanaged stress, which is a main component of chronic disorders such as anxiety, depression, obesity, diabetes and insomnia. Yoga also reduces the stress response, which includes the activity of the sympathetic nervous system and the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. It enhances resilience and improves mind-body awareness, which can help people adjust their behaviors based on the feelings they’re experiencing in their bodies.
